How to Bypass Internet Filters Without a Proxy

Internet filters help to keep down time-wasting Internet surfing by employees and aid system administrators in preventing users from accessing websites that could harm the company network. Many Internet filter applications block access to proxy websites, which are commonly used to bypass the filter. But there are times when an Internet filter blocks a legitimate website that is needed for work. If you don't have administrator rights to the Internet filter, you can still access the website without a proxy by finding its IP address instead.

1. Click the Windows Start button and type "Command Prompt" into the search field, and then press "Enter" to launch Command Prompt.

2. Type "ping websitename.com" at the command prompt, replacing "websitename.com" with the website's actual URL.

3. Copy the IP address that appears in the Command Prompt; it will be a series of numbers separated by periods (e.g. 123.456.789.00).

4. Paste the IP address for the website into your Web browser's URL field, then press "Enter." The IP address works the same way the domain name does, and the majority of Internet filters do not block websites' IP addresses. If the Internet filter does block IP addresses as well as domain names, your company has likely invested in a high-end Internet filter that cannot be bypassed without using illegal methods, such as hacking.
